Interest Based Strategy

The Work We Do

STRATIX recognizes that each organization and its employees/ members/stakeholders is unique — we begin by working to identify and understand the specific needs and expectations of the client.

We consult with representatives of the parties involved in the negotiations to develop the process and guidelines for convening interest-based bargaining to resolve the issues the parties are negotiating, improve communications and enhance positive relationships. Elements include:

What parties will be involved and who will represent them?

How will the costs of training and facilitation be handled?

Who will provide logistical and administrative support for the process?

What will be the schedule for initiating and concluding the interest-based negotiations process?

We may conduct a specific assessment to identify the history of the parties’ relationship, issues involved in the conflict, critical aspects of the local environment, and key leaders and influential decision-makers.

We design training to meet the specific needs of the parties (identified through the assessment and/or through consultation with representatives) and to prepare the representatives to successfully use interest-based negotiations:

The training is joint — with representatives and influential decision-makers from all parties involved.

The training is experiential — providing the opportunity to learn, practice and reflect on the skills and process of interest-based bargaining.

We facilitate the implementation of the interest-based negotiations to resolve the issues, improve communications and enhance positive relationships:

A "snapshot" process helps the parties identify the negotiations issues, key interests and critical information needs for each issue — the basis for a work plan and initial schedule involving all bargaining issues.

Work sessions are scheduled to make the most effective use of organizational resources — generally two or three consecutive days (or a series of sessions).
